Botswana took another important step in advancing sustainable energy solutions on 23 May 2026, as African Sun Energy (ASE), in partnership with Absa Bank Botswana, officially launched a pioneering solar activation project at Villa de Chazha Guesthouse in Francistown.

Botswana is currently facing a period of load shedding, disrupting daily life for households, businesses, and critical institutions across the country. As electricity demand continues to outpace supply, the reliability of the national grid remains under pressure, underscoring the urgent need for alternative, sustainable energy solutions.

African Sun Energy continues to expand its regional footprint and thought leadership in sustainable energy through active participation in high-level innovation and knowledge exchange platforms across Africa. Following its involvement in the launch of the Scalar Botswana Innovation Program (SBIP) in Gaborone, the company further strengthened its continental engagement through participation in the UK–Kenya–Botswana Trilateral Learning & Knowledge Exchange Programme held in Kenya.

In the middle of the Okavango Delta, in the quiet Khwai village, nestled along the storied banks of the Khwai River, a new chapter is unfolding for one of Botswana’s most iconic safari destinations. The historic Khwai River Lodge, a pioneer in photographic safaris will be reborn in early 2026 as Sediba Sa Rona, a luxurious, eco-conscious safari lodge that balances heritage with innovation. Set between the eastern Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve, the lodge commands one of Africa’s most vibrant wildlife corridors, where lions, leopards, wild dogs, elephants, hippos, and over 400–500 bird species roam freely.

African Sun Energy was proud to participate in the launch of the Scalar Botswana Innovation Program (SBIP), an initiative powered by Botswana Innovation Fund aimed at accelerating innovation and supporting scalable technology solutions in Botswana.

The launch event took place at Hotel 430 and brought together government leaders, innovators, investors, and industry experts to explore how emerging technologies, particularly in renewable energy and climate-tech, can drive Botswana’s economic growth.
