15 July – World Youth Skills Day
On World Youth Skills Day, African Sun Energy proudly joined the global community in recognizing the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to build a sustainable, innovative, and prosperous future.
As the world continued its transition towards clean and renewable energy, the demand for skilled professionals also continued to grow. From solar engineering and electrical installation to energy systems, project implementation, and technical operations, the renewable energy sector continued to create exciting opportunities for Botswana’s youth.
This year, African Sun Energy was pleased to welcome University of Botswana Electrical Engineering attachment students, who began gaining valuable workplace experience alongside our team. Their attachment marked an important step in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practice, helping prepare them for careers in Botswana’s growing green economy.
Throughout the programme, the students were exposed to different areas of the business, including:
- Renewable energy project development
- Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and clean energy technologies
- Site assessments and system planning
- Community engagement and sustainability awareness
This exposure provided them with valuable insights into the renewable energy sector while strengthening both their technical knowledge and professional skills.
Beyond technical experience, the attachment programme helped develop essential workplace competencies such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking, adaptability, problem-solving, and professionalism skills that will continue to benefit them throughout their careers.
African Sun Energy remained committed to investing in young people through mentorship, workplace learning, and practical industry exposure. By supporting students and graduates through internship and attachment opportunities, the company continued to contribute to the development of a skilled workforce capable of driving Botswana’s clean energy transition.
Although World Youth Skills Day has passed, its message continues to inspire our commitment to youth development. We reflected on the passion, dedication, and potential of our University of Botswana Electrical Engineering attachment students and all young people striving to build a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.African Sun Energy remains committed to empowering young people through practical skills development, innovation, and renewable energy opportunities.
